Working With Us - Our Work - BUILD Initiative
Strong Foundations For Our Youngest Children

Working with Us

The BUILD Initiative works intensively with 8 BUILD states (Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas and Washington) and the District of Columbia to develop comprehensive early learning systems that respond to the needs of young children and their families.

We provide them with financial support. And we offer targeted technical assistance to early childhood leaders from the public sector as well as the private advocacy and foundation community. In addition, we provide information and support to several other states to help them better coordinate the policies, services and programs provided to young children. As other states participate in BUILD meetings and learning community activities, they more fully appreciate comprehensive early childhood development systems.

Building a Movement for Quality

Our systems building work is at the center of an emerging and vibrant state-based movement in the early childhood development field. With a staff of seasoned professionals and experts in the field, technical assistance providers, researchers and evaluators, the BUILD Initiative:

  • Delivers services and programs, including evaluation, national and regional conferences, tailored in-state technical assistance, and professional development opportunities.
  • Partners with colleague organizations to promote the value of high quality early care and education.
  • Disseminates the best and latest thinking and trends in the early childhood field through sponsored research and policy papers, webinars and issue-specific meetings.

The services and assistance that we provide represents a complex undertaking. We help states track progress, identify important next steps, and assess best practices. This critical work is done within individual BUILD states by state leaders, and by the national BUILD technical assistance and evaluation team. Our work provides valuable information for all states as they seek to better support families of young children.

Ultimately, BUILD serves as a catalyst for change and a national resource on early childhood development and policy.
