Early Learning Left Out

Charles Bruner
October 2013

As a society, are we investing enough in our youngest children? The BUILD Initiative’s latest report Early Learning Left Out provides a clear answer that current investments fall far short. The report draws upon the most recent federal, state, and public school budget information – and what we know about effective investments in young children. It offers valuable information for those seeking to build early learning systems, based upon fiscal analysis and the latest research and evidence of the need for and value of additional investments in early childhood services.

The report suggests that President Barack Obama’s call for $10 billion annually in new federal funding represents a step toward closing the investment gap, and follows on the calls by the three previous Presidents to step up attention to the earliest learning years.
